Design of Automata
Automata are mechanical machines that follow a predetermined sequence of movements where a single input crank is used to create elaborate and complex movements.

3D Printed Automata
This mechanical bird automaton is completely 3D printed and requires no assembly!
Rotation of the crank is transformed into vertical motion by a scotch yoke mechanism. This makes the body of the bird go up and down. At the same time, two links are connected to each of the wings, resulting in a beautiful animation. Get it here.

This dinosaur automaton is based on the Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus and features three scoth yokes, two four bar linkages, and one pin in slot mechanism, all connected by gear trains and driven by a single crank.
